A Sweet Tale

Nine months ago a baby was born north of Redway in one of our local camps. The mother went into labor and delivered quickly before the ambulance arrived. Mom and babe went to the hospital to be checked out and both were healthy.

Mom and babe were put into shared housing but the dad was unable to be with them due to their then 3 dogs. Working with DHHS the mom and babe ended up in Eureka, again in a shared apartment, mom sleeping on couch. Not the best situation but shelter, all the same. Mom and babe would ride the transit bus down from Eureka to Redway to allow the family to be together three times a week. Dad had to stay in the camp with dogs.

After the parents sharing their story with SHO and CALWORKs they were able to obtain shelter in Eureka that also allowed their dogs, now 2 in number (for a fee), to stay with them. The family is united and now looking forward to more permanent housing. If anyone knows of a place, please contact SHO and we will help, along with CALWORKs to help facilitate moving this family to permanent housing.
